In memory of Karl-Ernst Kaissling (1933–2026)

The Latin American Association of Chemical Ecology honors Karl-Ernst Kaissling as a pioneering scientist whose work fundamentally advanced our understanding of insect olfaction and sensory biology. His research revealed how minute amounts of chemical signals activate specific neurons and drive behavior, establishing a rigorous, quantitative framework that continues to shape studies in sensory physiology and chemical ecology. Beyond his scientific contributions, he is remembered for his intellectual clarity and lasting influence on generations of researchers, whose work still builds on the foundational questions he helped define.
