The inaugural ISCE Early Career Researcher Showcase and Career Panel is taking place virtually on September 3rd, 2026 at 18:00 EDT (GMT: - 4:00) and will run for about 1.5 hours. The event will begin with a series of 3-minute lightning talks by early career researchers from across the Americas, providing an opportunity to showcase some of the exciting chemical ecology research being led by the next generation of researchers. These presentations will be followed by brief introductions from our invited senior scientists and ISCE, ALAEQ, and APACE leaders, who will share some of the key steps, decisions, opportunities, and challenges that have shaped their scientific journeys. Rather than formal career talks, these introductions will serve as a starting point for a longer, open panel discussion about life and careers in science as a chemical ecologist.

A substantial part of the event will therefore be dedicated to discussion, and early career researcher attendees are warmly encouraged to bring their questions for the panelists. Topics might include developing a research career, choosing between career paths, building collaborations, finding mentorship, navigating setbacks and opportunities, balancing research with other professional responsibilities, or simply aspects of a scientific career that are rarely discussed in formal presentations.

Everyone is welcome to attend, and we particularly encourage early career researchers to take advantage of this opportunity to engage directly with experienced scientists from our community.

The Early Career Researcher Program within the International Society of Chemical Ecology is hosting the first virtual showcase and panel highlighting people and their journeys in chemical ecology. We will have student lightning talks, followed by presentations from some current and past leaders of our societies (ISCE, ALAEQ and APACE) on their journey through science and academia. We will close with a panel of our senior scientists to allow students and early career researchers to ask questions about the academic journey and gain networking opportunities.

Our first session will take place September 3rd, 2026, at 18:00 Eastern Time. All are welcome to attend but we particularly encourage early career researchers to come and engage in networking and mentorship opportunities with senior researchers in the society. While participation will provide the most benefit, we hope to record the session for those in incompatible time zones.

Finally, it is not a student showcase without students to showcase! We are also seeking student volunteers to give lightning talks at the showcase. Talks will be relatively short (~3 minutes), and we encourage a diversity of topics and people. You can sign up at the following link: ECR Showcase Student Presenters.

The PhD course in Insect Chemical Ecology will take place in Alnarp, Sweden, from May 25 to June 5, 2026. The course is organized in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute (Germany) and Penn State University (USA).
