In the screening of organic chemicals for use as antifeedants/feeding repellents for the pine weevil, Hylobius abietis, the monoterpene carvone was found to be active. Although carvone has many positive properties (e.g. readily available, non-toxic, easy to administrate), the substance has one major disadvantage. If long treatment periods are desired, the high volatility of carvone is a problem. Suggestions for solving this problem by chemical means will be discussed.
